Recommendations for a not too expensive DVI out card?

Recommendations for a not too expensive DVI out card?

My friend seems ready to utilize the value of DVI for an LCD monitor. There is no need for a monster 9700 type card, as office viewing of sharp text and the occasional DVD would seem to be the majority uses.

Even some leads to the good reviews would help.

Thanks

Good DVD viewing on low spec card? That'll be ATi or SiS then. Radeon 7500 or 9000, as well as Xabre 200. Reason being that only these two vendors have not only Motion Compensation hardware, but also IDCT math units, both unloading the CPU during DVD playback.
Signal quality is always perfect on DVI - it's digital, it's a works-or-doesn't thing, no inbetweens.

I'm sure your friend would appreciate a fanless card for the sake of quietness. Go for a 7500LE or 9000 non-pro then.

give us a price range
no games at all ?
what kinda system is it going into ie: specs ?
i like my GF4 with dvi out

Thanks, Peter , Serp86 , Soulkeeper , Doh! and Yield
Particularly the Anand review of the 9000, linked in the previous posting.. It appears that with a touch of time the 9000 pro has dropped in price, it would be workable.
It is worthy of note if the ATI box includes the DVI cable or not

The card would be going into a moderate speed AMD system with 512 Mg ram and likely either a Samsung 171P 17? LCD monitor or its more expensive brother, the 170 MP or 171MP, with the larger number of multimedia outs. Depending upon what they want. The DVI factor, I have been convinced is of value. At this point they do office viewing and a once in a while DVD. They could show DVDs to their associates with either the 171P or the 170 MP or 171MP, with the use of a DVI cable and a card as good or better than the ATI 9000 pro.
If there is a more appropriate card for the above system, please do let me know. Also competing monitor suggestions, if any.

I haven't heard anything that says you need any 3D power at all...so I'd go for an older ATI myself (7500LE should suit you fine)
They can take the cash they save and buy some DVD's to watch 🙂
Newegg.com always has lots of ATI cards of this type in stock, I'd take a gander at what they have at the moment.

I second that. The 7500 is all you need. They should be dirt cheap these days.

i think 9100 sell the Sapphire-ATI 9100 for cheap, like around 80's.
its got dvi, svideo and crt out. and i think its got 128MB too. I'm thinking to get it myself also at newegg.
