Please forgive me as I have no actual experience buying these things.
Our lab needs a new networked fax/copier/scanner/printer for the lab. Most stuff is B&W text, but we do like to use color for the occasional need. Budget is under $1000.
My primary concern is reliability. For example, top feeders, that won't turn in to paper eating monsters (or won't for a long time anyway). Toner longevity and cost per page comes in a distant second.
Linux compatibility if possible is a nice bonus.
I have been both pleased and disappointed by each of HP, Xerox and Epson in the past with different models.
For example, the recent HP inkjet AIO we had totally sucked (gobbled paper all the time), and finally died after a couple of years of pretty light use on the fax/feeder. OTOH, the HP Laserjet 4200n's in the office have been quite reliable for a couple/few years now.
I'm thinking if there's something like a color AIO version of the HP 4000 series Laserjets, I would feel confident with that.
Thanks for any help.
