Hi,

Looking for recommendations on a multimedia system. I will be getting probably a Intel 800e cpu, Asus motherboard (haven't decided which), 256MB SDRAM 133mhz, but I don't know what video card, sound card etc to get. I want to be able to capture video and sound from tv, vcr and videocam recorders VHS, PAL, NTSC etc. I currently have a tv and vcr that have s-video plugs but I don't know if s-video is any good or how hard it is to work with. I also want to be able to capture from a dvd player and dvd rom in the computer. I wouldn't mind getting a card that capture video and sound via firewire IEEE1394. Need to record sound through a microphone aswell etc.
MACs are completely out of the question way too damn expensive, 3 times what a pc would cost.

Also what are good programs to use to edit media.
If possible could you please also provide a explaination of why each component would be good to get and also any conflicts hardware and software.

Thanks in advance.

Actually probably get a Dual Intel 800e.
Pretty high qaulity, i don't think i'll be able to afford proper professional equipment but as good a quality as I can get on a $3000AUS under system but I do want to be able to make my own VHS/PAL videotapes, fullscreen 1024x760 and above. Also make my own vcds and movies for the internet.

I am studying multimedia at school and we are also doing film editing on Premiere 5.5 but only making .mov's at 320x240 and are quite pixelated capture off a panansonic digital videocam. Impossible to view at fullscreen 800x600 and above, just looks like a bunch of blocks.

I want to also try to make music video clip cds of my friend's band to to send to record companies instead of the plain old demo tape. Gives it a more professional look and the record company has a better idea of what the band is about.

for the soundcard, I would go with the Sound Blaster Platinum and for the VGA Card you can go with the ATI... the new one radeon is good. I have the older one, rage fury and I am really satisfied with it.

Thanks for the reply

Can the Radeon hook up multiple monitors??

Yeah I was actually thinking of the Platinum, I currently have the Live! and I am quite please with it but it don't record sound to well through a mic, quite fuzzy and distorted sometimes.

I was thinking maybe a Asus or Leadtec Geforce2 32MB GTS, doubt I could afford the Hercules Phrophet 64MB something like $800AUS plus down here.

Any other suggestions???

Thanks
