I'm looking for a new host since I'm unsatisfied with the horrible Dreamhost latency with Gallery2. They also don't allow backups (this recently changed, but still not enough space) which is a major thorn on my side. I'm looking for a reasonably priced host which has faster speeds and doesn't harass me about backups. I'm looking at 500 gigs of space.

I searched through the previous threads about this, but I'm not looking for the cheapest solution or just plain image hosting:
Recommendations for CHEAP web hosting?
Online Photo Backup / Online Storage Services

I did check up on a couple hosts from the first link, but I'm wary about the "unlimited" hosting space (ie, www.bluehost.com). If you have a solution, please offer it.

Edit
Let me clarify. I need to be able to store files in on the server, to backup my computer and personal backups just in case of catastrophic failure. Most files will be of pictures that I took (raws take up quite a bit of space). Since I won't be sharing my entire gallery in the forseeable future, Dreamhost throws a hissyfit and emails me constantly about not using the space as backup. I don't really care if host back up my site or not, although I will not turn down such an offer. But the most important thing is that they allow me to store my files on the server without constantly bugging me.

If you're willing to spend an 60/year in addition whatever host you end up with, Mozy.com does "unlimited" backups, "unlimited" space. If you'd rather have backups + host, I have no clue.

Bluehost is a really good host, in my experience, but I'm also wary about the "unlimited" there.

backups? like backing up your server or backing up to the server?

if you go with mtemple you'll be under budget and have a lot of resources to work with if you as hosting 50GB worth of data. As for backups, jsut use rsync or setup a backup job to ftp and setup an ftp server at home

<--his servers backup automatically to his pc every night for free:)

Now if you want to backup TO a server go with mozy as nobody54 said

I have a VPS with automatic backup. I'd love to find someone non-nefarious to share it with. It's with liquid web, they're A+. PM me if you'd like to chat about it.

Edit: are you saying you need 500GB of storage, or is that including your backup?
