recommendations for a hard drive cooler?

You could use one of those coolermaster hard drive coolers.
What I like to do is get one like this: http://www.svc.com/fhd-3410w3e-42.html
or something similar, and remove the tiny fans, and just have louvers with a filter to catch some dust.
I mount my hard drive in the 5-1/4" slot behind the louvers, and with a decent rear fan or two, it brings nice cool air in over the hard drive.Cheap and works great.

The Zalman cooler looks cool, but im not sure how well it would actually perform since it connects to the Hard drive from the side, which i always thought was the coolest part of the drive.

As for that Xper cooler marincounty suggested, that would work pretty well, but it will add alot of noise.

Im gonna go with Unkno on this one and suggest a good intake fan.

The Zalman coolers work well. The basic construction of a HDD is that everything fastens to the frame, which is an alloy casting... which usually transmits a lot of heat to the enclosure thru the contact patch when mounted w/ screws... Which is one of the problems with grommets or other elastic mounts- no heat transfer... The zalman gives the best of both worlds w/ acoustic isolation and good heat transfer.

You can even lap the sides of the drive and mount the zalman w/ heatsink compound for maximum effect...

Dunno what that does to the warranty, though...
