Recommendations for a good SOHO printer?

I'm sick of my printer I have now. It's an HP OfficeJet 610 and it's stopped printing color, even with a new cartridge and it smears ink all across the page. GRRRR..

I bought it because it was cheap, guess you get what you pay for.:|

I want to get a new printer and was thinking about going with a laser printer. I'm looking for one that is of good quality, but still fairly inexpensive, color is an afterthought. I was thinking maybe a Lexmark?

Suggestions?

It's sort of like fishing. Every so often you just have to reel in the lure and cast again.

For a B&W laser for @$200-$250 (depends on if you find a deal or not)

the Brother HL-1440 is a great printer.

There have been many threads on it in the forums.

I had an old HL-1040 that finally started showing it's age (3+ years) after putting through at least a case of paper through it every month.

Replaced it with a 1440 and it's great.
