My bro wants to setup a messageboard for a few of his friends but he only has comcast 10MB space for a host. Are there any hosts that can accomodate a messageboard that is low cost/free? <prefer free>

There will be about 20 users so I'd imagine transfer would be low. It will only be a messageboard for a few of his car buddies so I'd say space would be minimal also.

I run a phpbb forum with just about 70 users... my database size is only 14mb, but since I have 700mb of storage, I have the forums set to archive every message

Well it'll be hard to come across a free host with mysql.

My best bet would be to use brinkster (or any other freehost that supports cgi) and use "newspro" to make your posts.

Here are some free discussion boards.

The two most popular phpBB and InvisionPowerBoard require MySQL and PHP.

Can your bro afford $25/yr for the following?
His own domain (whateveryouwant.com)
Email with WebMail
MySQL and PHP so you can run FREE forums like this
Free web stats, control panel, free image gallery and more.

If he can afford $25/yr for this, contact me on AIM.

YaBB doesn't require MySQL.

I got a free MySQL from lycos search and am hosting phpbb from my 1and1 so far. It seems to be working but I wanna migrate if off to seperate it. We're gonna try moving it over to his comcast and see if it'll run.

I'll ask him about the hosting RossMAN. Does that price include a domain name? How much transfer and space?

well, we tried to shift it to his comcast but it doesn't wanna run. They won't allow files that begin with a . so the .htaccess file won't upload. Any way around this?

Here are two choices under $25/yr:

1) $8.88/yr domain
$9.99 - $15.98/yr web hosting offered by HostPC, RippleHost and e-rice.net

My recommendation goes to HostPC.com

2) $8.88/yr domain
Anubis and other AT'ers can offer you FREE WEB HOSTING Fantastico which is nice you can install phpBB or InvisionPowerBoard in 30 seconds.

Contact me on AIM and I can give you a live demo on how to use Fantastico. PM me your AIM.

Thanks for the help RossMAN!

Edit, nevermind on that thank you. There was no need to bite my head off RossMAN. If you would have bothered to listen to what I was saying you would have realized I was talking about two completely different items. Such is life though<shrug>

I'll never "bother" you again nor "waste" your time by asking a simple question.
