I'm getting a Canon digital camcorder with firewire output. I have KT3Ultra mainboard and an Athlon XP1800+. I'm looking for a firewire card (PCI) to put in for the camera. I've noticed a large difference in price with some cards, and I was wondering if there is a solid, compatible, and pain-free firewire card for winXP Pro SP1 out there.

I don't have a lot of money to spend, so preferably I'd like to buy one for $30 or less.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Siig makes a solid 1394 PCI card - and there is one on sale at MWave for under $30 + S/H.

you want an Ohci compliant texas instruments based card for best compatability. Most cards are though.

Since NEC makes the Firewire chipset, it dosen't really mater which brand you use - they're all within 5% of each other.
KOUTECH for $20 is as good as any.
