Recommendations for a dvd codec?

I just re-installed and I am looking for a free, small footprint dvd codec so that I can play dvds on my computer. Any suggestions?

i use dscaler for watching dvd's in GBPVR since it doesn't natively support it. But like Modelworks stated if you just need a player then VLC is the way to go as it play pretty much everything without downloading additional codecs.
