I've got a large site with a few dozen IP cams. Several of them have consistent, frequent outages. Replacement cams suffer the same issues. A basic continuity tester doesn't reveal any faults. I think I have to finally shell out for a professional tool. But which one?
Do you have experience with that model? Any other ones? I'm finding that most of the testers can't detect crosstalk. I would need to get a Fluke that's $8k-$12k to detect those anomalies.
I don't have a lot of IP camera experience, but seems like all of the half dozen I've tried have had some level of flakiness, with the best needing a monthly off/on. Do you have any way of tracking bad packets etc?
im assuming when you say continuity tester, your not saying a multimeter and checking for ring tones and instead used a ethernet cable tester, to make sure the cable itself was wired properly right?
Something like this:
If you tested the cable and it is working fine.
Im gonna say your problem most likely lies in the POE switch used to power the cameras.
I would first recommend you change the port on the problem camera, and see if it still has issues.
The fault could also be at the camera itself.
Also what is the distances are you running for these fault cameras?
