Recommendations for a 19" CRT monitor?

Building a new system - photoshop/gaming/general use - looking at running dual monitors.

I was going to get a DVI LCD, either 17" or 19", then get a 19" CRT soonish, within the next few months.

Upon rethinking, I may be better off switching that - getting the CRT first - especially as LCD prices are supposed to be due to drop within the next few months (not the best reason I know, but it's a reason, and I can't see any reason to get the LCD first....)

So, can anybody recommend a 19" CRT monitor? Would there be any reason not to look at 2nd hand to save a bit of money?

Phillips 109b have incredible contrast and dot pitch, if you can still find one. They also keep perfect sharpness 1600x1200 @75herzt.

109b is a shadowmask, 109p is the diamondtron version. I am not going to argue which is technologically superior / visually preferred, but the latter is usually more sought after for games/movies. The reason why you wouldnt want a second hand CRT is the fact that they age and you can have some serious burn in problems, loss of focus and all kinds of other undesireable things. If you have a good idea of what you should look for, I guess it might be ok. I love mine :D not a single LCD I laid my eyes on really impressed me, so I am waiting for SEDs and this 22'' will tide me over for next 3-4 years or so.

Although I don't think my monitor is that great, it gets the job done. I'm running a Samsung 997DF (997MB). It's a shadow mask, and the geometry is a bit of a pain in the ass, but it's got a good picture, and was better than any LCD I could get for <$200.

great prices, even on 22" CRT monitors. I bought my NEC FE1250+ for $157 (6 month warranty), it looks new! They will surely have a 19" for you, if you can afford it, go 22! I had a 19" KDS...junk compared to my NEC (Diamondtron tube)

Try to find a used Mitsubishi 930SB or Sony G420. There aren't really any decent CRTs available new these days.

I am still curious how the newer pureflat tubes compared to good old aparture grilles. Did anyone get a chance to use them both for some time?

Just bought another 930sb off ebay tonight for $150. It is sorely needed on my daughter's computer (she has some *horrible* Envision 17" that I got for like $30 at Office Depot after rebates like 3 years ago). With 1 2070SB and 2 930SBs, my office is starting to look like a Nec-Mitsu distro center. :)
