Recommendations for 37" LCD

I am finally ready to purchase a HDTV. It'll primarily be used to watch movies off a Blue-ray player and my Vaio laptop. My living room is small so I think a 37" is the optimum size (6" viewing distance).

Right now, my top choice is the Sharp Aquos LC27D64U. It's got fairly decent reviews although a number of users reported issues with audio out.

Are there other units you'd recommend? There's a slightly more expensive Aquos built for gamers but the PC input is DVI which my laptop doesn't support. Are there other considerations I should take into account?

Thanks for your help!

6 inch viewing distance??? You might want to go with a 19" :) From 6', 37" would be a good size. Samsung, Sony and LG also make good LCD's that you might want to look at. Sharp is also a good brand.

Haha ... yes i mean 6 feet :) Six inch would be a good reviewing distance for my iPod Touch.

In my opinion, LG and Samsung are a step up from sharp - but they're quite a lot more spendy. Best Buy has a wide variety of 37" TVs on display - why not go take a look?

That said, you really can't go wrong buying a Samsung. They almost always rate well, and we've got a pair of thirteen-year-old Samsung VCRs that work as well as the day we bought them.

My parents bought a 37" Samsung LCD HDTV @ 1080p and it looks great from 6 feet away. The color representation is great, plus the pixel density is very nice and crisp. I personally love the thing. If you want to do blu-ray from 6 feet away, I'd say a 37" 1080p is the way to go. It might be time to start thinking about your audio system, too :)

Thanks for the input guys ... I'm going to go to BestBuy and take a look at some of the Samsung models too.

I have no clue about audio setups. Any recommendations on that? The room is pretty small so I think even a 2.1 system would suffice.

Thanks again!

Samsung > SHarp in most cases. That being said - we have 2 of the 42" from the same line (the 64U) - and they work very, VERY well. component at 1080i or 720p both look phenomenal on this set. Don't shy away from Sharp, they are very, very good. Samsung is just that much better.

I personally put Sharp on equal footing with Samsung.

I find the colours more vibrant on Sharp LCDs, and they tend to have better response time. They also have the best black levels of any LCD.

Samsung is better for image uniformity and overall quality.

I disagree with the person who said LG is better than Sharp. IMO LG makes absolutely horrible displays.
