I still would like to play my old school games(starcraft, etc.)on my new monitor and I was wondering what other monitor than the crazy banding 2007WFP has a scaler? If there isn't one, can anybody PLEASE do a test if an ATI card with the "keep aspect ratio" setting is display properties can make it so that 4:3 games will have black bars on the sides and not stretched?

ATI does not offer such capability for their desktop products. Essentially, there is just a toggle (only available via DVI) which is either "fill" or "do nothing". The latter passes the image to the FPD and thus depends upon its own capabilities to prevent distortion. I cannot imagine any current WS FPD's lacking their own settings (particularly maintain aspect ratio) but it is certainly a good idea to confirm how the the combo works to avoid any nasty surprises.

actually, popular 20" WS LCDs including the VX2025wm and the BenQ FP202W don't have scaling options. That's why I was asking the experts here if anyone knows of 20" WS's that can scale. Do you know if nVidia's video cards offer that feature? I thought I heard that somewhere.... anyways, thx for the reply.

I read, I'm just pointing out the option that exists anyways. And in that case, what's so wrong with the 2005FPW?

The video card won't matter anyways, if the monitor is doing the scaling. Well basically, if your monitor can't handle it, your video card can't force it. For me anyways, as my 1280x1024 LCD can't play games at 1280x720 in a letterbox, only streched no matter what I do.

actually, read up on some posts @ widescreengamingforum or at hardforum about the vx2025wm and you'll see the people with 7900GTs could display 4:3 resolutions on games with black bars on the side, although that monitor doesn't have any scaling.

The Gateway FPD 2185W (21" WS) can do this thanks to the Faroudja processing chip. I know it is a 21" WS and not a 20", but I have a brand new one that can be yours for $475.
