Recommendation on NB cooling fan

I have the abit quadgt. I planning on doing something, probably some type of ghetto mod to have a fan blowing on the NB. Was thinking of rigging something up. Any ideas? 😛

Voiding the above idea of doing some ghetto rig with a fan......what about the below.

Anything on this page in the $10.00 or below range worth even considering that would be better than stock?

A 40mm fan over the chipset cooler would probably work fine, and if you had more room an 80mm fan would probably drastically reduce your temps. Someone suggested using double sided foamy adhesive to tape the center section of a fan to the NB, and I have found that this method works quite well and also reduces noise as the adhesive absorbs some of the vibration. If you have the time, you might also want to remove the chipset cooler and apply a better thermal paste like Shin Etsu X23 to further promote thermal conductivity.

I like that idea. Just going to svc I noticed this clearance fan. http://svc.com/vauvsequledf.html Wonder how that is. 😛 Looks like 30dba, that is fairly loud isnt it?

Edit: Oh maybe something like this? http://svc.com/acf3.html

This is an aluminum 80mm for FREE AR. http://svc.com/aaf-b81-e1.html

Do you have any recommendations on 40mm fans or where/which to purchase.

For a 40mm fan I would recommend the Scythe Mini Kaze since it's relatively quiet and has decent airflow...I think you can get that at FrozenCPU.com...not sure though, so be sure to check around.

For 80mm the ACF3 wouldn't work too well since it's designed to be an exhaust only fan and doesn't really pull much air...I would suggest something like this:

Expensive...yes, but it will give you good service for a long time to come

This fan also works well (bit louder though) if you can find it in stock.

If you need 80's too while your at jabtech grab a couple of yate loons, The 80mm is $1.95. You won't be disappointed.

My oddball solution is to take a Zalman NB47J and put a Coolermaster 40mm fan on it (taken from a Coolermaster NB heatsink) with some long bolts from Canadian Tire. It works well. (I can't remember but they're like 2 inch by 6/32 or 8/32, whatever, it brass-colored anyway.)

Alright thanks. Yeah I own like 4 or 5 120mm yate loons. I do like them, though they do have fairly low CFM.

Yeah I was contemplating that actually. Not necessarily that zalman, but something like that.

Don't use a 40mm fan. 40mm fans are bad news. They develop high-pitched whines after a short period of time and will drive you crazy. You'll be much better off with a volt-modded 60mm or 80mm fan running at low RPMs if you care about noise.

If you don't mind the noise, a 40mm fan will work fine, but an 80mm fan will still cool even better.

Yeah, I think im convinced to go with an 60mm or 80mm now. I just have to decide how I am going to mount it and which fan to get.
