Can anyone recommend 2.1 speakers for use in a small conference room? I plan to conceal the subwoofer by mounting it in the ceiling, the left and right speakers will be wall mounted. The system will be connected directly (digital optical) to a TV, so self-powered system capable of accepting any input (5.1, 2.1, etc..) would be ideal. Thanks

hmm seems like you should budget ~$100 on 2.0 speakers, rest on subwoofer
how big is this small conference room?

something like the logitech z623 would probably be the easiest

if you want something with cleaner audio the swan m50w might be ok but i dunno about availability

What content will you be playing through this sound system? A pair of active studio monitors should be good enough unless you're watching movies and absolutely need a sub. Something like this should do the job http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-B203.../dp/B000MJ7AA2, you'll need some kind of DAC and some other adapters though. There aren't many self powered systems that have digital inputs, those that do are typically lower end. It might make more sense to get an inexpensive AV receiver and use un-powered speakers, you'd certainly have more options and flexibility that way. If ultimate simplicity is your only goal, you might consider a sound bar, some of them sound pretty darn good.
