I want to upgrade my sound card/speakers to the current generation's stuff. I have a SB Audigy (think I should just stick with this?) but I have crappy speakers.

I want to have the 5.1 system but I was hoping to stay under $250 if it's possible. So.... any suggestions? Stick with the SB Audigy (the first gen kind not the new stuff) and get some new speakers (lemme know what you guys like) or get a new sound card and new speaker system? A $250 budget is kinda low for sound card + speakers I think but lemme know what you sound ethusiasts got for me please :)

Thanks in advance.

Definately what I would say too.

Get the best speakers you can afford and hopefully you wont feel the need to upgrade for a long time :).

For a full 5.1 set, you're almost at z-5500 territory. If you can find a deal on one of those, that's probably going to be your best option. Below that level, Logitech has the z-5300 set, but that's $100 under your cap. There don't seem to be a lot of good options between $150 and the z-5500 set.

Just a thought that I like to throw out there: if you're interested in building a really nice sound system over time, you have a budget that could get you started. You could get a decent receiver and set of stereo speakers for that budget. In time you could add a sub and 3 more speakers to get yourself a full 5.1 set.
