Recommendation for low profile USB 3 PCIe card? D-Link gives me BSOD.

I have a D-Link DUB-1310 low profile USB 3.0 PCIe x 1 card which I got a couple of years ago but unfortunately, it crashes my computer after use sometimes. I actually get a BSOD, and it's the only thing ever to give me a BSOD. I didn't have BSODs before I got the card, and I don't get BSODs if I don't use the card. However, if I do use the card with a USB 3 device, every once in a while I will get a blue screen shortly after I remove the device.

I have since uninstalled it. Any recommendations for another low profile card? I have a PCIe x 1 and a PCIe x 16 slot open.

I'm tempted to get a USB 3.1 card with both Type A and Type C connectors, just because. Something like this?

There are a few options out there but it seems most don't come with the low profile adapter. Most are based on the ASMedia 1142 chipset so if I get something with that, I should be good to go, right? I note that the OWC FireWire 800 / USB 3.0 2.5" drive enclosure I just ordered uses an ASMedia 1053E chipset, so compatibility should be good.

The only thing is that it will use up my PCIe x 16 slot since it is a PCIe x 4 card, but I don't care as I don't plan on getting a new GPU for this machine. No gaming.

I have the one by Anker in two different machines. Uses a VIA chipset, a x1 slot, and very reasonably priced.

I'll keep the Anker in mind, thanks.

I would try using the card in another pc to rule it out as being bad.
Not sure if it's bad or not, or just a driver/hardware incompatibility. It actually works fine when in use. It's just that the BSOD happens after I use it - when I unplug the device.

If I understand you right you can plug into the usb port on the card and use it normally but when you unplug from the usb port it crashes your system. I would look for firmware updates for your mb and card; as well as driver updates for both. Back in the day an irq conflict would cause devices to malfunction.

You don't specify whether this is for Windows or Mac.
Amazon sells several Inateck branded [Fresco Logic controller chip] USB 3.0 PCIe cards, which will work in both machine types.

Correct.

I don't think there are any updates for my MB, and I'm running the latest driver for the card. I'm running the latest driver for my nVidia MB chipset too AFAIK.

I did say BSOD, which implies Windows, but good point nonetheless. 🙂

OK thanks, I'll check it out.

Thread moved to Gen Hware, internal cards are not Peripherals.
Noted. Thanks for the move.

I got one ages ago from startech and it was one of the initial NEC chips. I've run it on an H67 system for over 4 years with no issues in Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2.
