Recommendation for grill tools?

A couple years ago, I had these grill tools that had a really good chrome finish and hardwood handles. They might have been Char-Broil brand; I'm not sure. Any way, the metal part held up really well, but after a few washes in the dishwasher, the wood handles started to weather pretty badly.

I replaced that set with an all stainless steel set. The whole tool is stainless including the handles. They're not chromed, they're just a satin finish stainless steel. These obviously hold up to weather and the dishwasher quite nicely, but because stainless steel is inherently soft, the surfaces get scored up easily and carbon builds up in the scratches making them harder and harder to clean.

I looked online for a new set of tools and saw this Cuisinart set on Amazon, but one of the reviewers said it rusted the first time it went through the dishwasher.

What grill tools do you guys and gals use/recommend? I would love to find a set with really good chrome that doesn't rust (like my first set), but not with the hardwood handles... or at least if the handles are wood, handles that hold up to the dishwasher.

Thanks! :D

Dishwasher is bad for metal, even stainless steel cuz it is really hot and humid for long time so even stainless steel will rust if u keep in it. This is becuz heat loosen up metal atom and then rust particle get in easier. Just don't put it in dishwasher wash with hose when u are done

I think there is also spray u can get at home hardware or copy of that, that when u spray on metal it dont rust

good luck meng

I think pot and pans is ok becuz metal is bigger, I have not heard of Reverewear so dunno how long people use with dishwasher without it falling apart, but even tho I got Rachael Ray pot and pan and it is ok in dishwasher no way I put them in dishwasher. Most shef don't put their prized tool in dishwasher, they all wash by hand, use dishwasher only for plates and like forks and shit.

auntcleo,

No offense, but I don't think you know what you're talking about. Stainless steel isn't affected by dishwashers. The Cuisinart's chrome was because it's cheap chrome. But chrome is not stainless. And flatware (forks, knives, spoons, etc.) is stainless and small and people wash them in dishwashers all of the time.

I've worked in restaurants and EVERYTHING goes through the dishwasher and restaurant dishwashers are hotter than home washers and use a bleach detergent which is way more corrosive than a cup of Cascade.

get the weber 3 pirce set. fantastic.

I saw that same set on sale at Lowes a couple weeks ago (they're all gone now :(), but I didn't jump on it because I was afraid the satin finish of the stainless steel will build up with carbon like the set I have now. Of course, if it's all around better quality (which I would assume it would be if it's Weber), it may hold up better.

Do you have this set? It holds up pretty well?

I picked up a set from bed, bath and beyond after going through at least a dozen others. You can take these from my cold dead hands now, it's a prized possession.

I just looked at them, it's the OXO good grips kind. Thick rubber handles and stainless steel. I leave them outside all the time and just wash before use. Best grill tools ever. I will never use anything else, they're really that good.

Really? OXO? I love OXO, but realize that a lot of their stuff is just gimmicky. But if you like the grill tools THAT MUCH, I'm definitely going to have a look at them.

EDIT: I just had a look at an online picture of the OXO grill tool set. I noticed the spatula isn't slotted. Does this bother you?

I've had so many grill tools it isn't funny. At the very least check them out and hold them in your hands. Very sturdy. Only complaint is I wish they were longer and bigger.

I own it. I even leave it outside in the grill and still in good shape.

Yep, I second this. I use OXO Good Grips for any necessary kitchen tool that they make.

I also hand wash them, but that's just because it's easier.

As for JG's impression that they're gimmicky, I'd still suggest giving them a try. If there's something better on the market, I'm all ears, because I've thrown away a lot of lower quality tools before I started buying OXO.

Bed Bath and Beyond and I think Target carry the brand, so you can go and see/hold them to see if it's something you want.

Wow! Cool.

From the pictures, it looks like a chromed SS finish instead of the satin, so if that's the case that's a definite plus... and I know that the OXO handles stand up because I have a number of OXO kitchen tools now and they always go through the dishwasher.

I've got a Williams-Sonoma set. It's really nice, big sturdy stuff. I'm about 90% positive that it's rebranded and you could get it cheaper... but I don't know the 'original' brand.

Much like this but not monogrammed and a slightly different mop.

Well... in this case, I think they have gimmicky stuff, that doesn't mean low quality (does that make sense?). Things like a ginger peeler or a strawberry huller...could be called gimmicky, even if it's made well with quality materials.

That looks a lot like the "house brand" set they have at Lowes. It's on sale now, but I've been staying away from it because it's the same satin SS finish that I currently have.

Oxo tongs and other tools are very, very good. I wouldn't buy one of their knives, but I'm particular about those. I can't stand a bad knife.
