I know I know not video, but before you bash me please read along

I'm looking to purchase a laptop, but I want this laptop to be able to play cs:s, hl2, tf2. what gpu would be the best solution? I am leaning toward the dell XPS but they are a bit expensive, so I am willing to go for an older model laptop. What should my starting point be for the GPU?

Check out Notebookreview.com for a lot of info regarding gaming notebooks.

For a 15.4", get something with a 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3 which could be found in the XPS M1530 (use coupons and scouting to find the best prices, Dell always has a coupon) or the Asus G1S. That card performs better than the 8600M GT 512MB DDR2 (more common) card that's found in laptops such as the Inspiron 1520, Sager NP2090, etc, etc.

For a 17", you could check out the Sager NP5792 which has an 8800M GTX.

Notebookreview would be much more helpful for this matter, check out their "What notebook should I buy?" forums.

Friend has a $2200 17 inch notebook with 8600M GT with DDR2 or DDR3 not sure.
Plays CS:S at 1920x1200 fine.

imo $400/$500 laptop + $1100 gaming computer IS the way to go.
