I am finishing up building a PC for my niece. She is 7 years old and I would like to get a small mouse for her use. I am only familiar with the everyday MS/Logitech variety so can anyone recommend a good quality small mouse? Thanks.

Look for laptop or portable mice. Best Buy has them near the laptops usually. Staples also has them at some stores.

Get an optical one, IMHO.

My 5 year old is completely comfortable with my microsoft 2 button scroll mouse. It's amazing to see really. You'd think it would be too big but he manages it very well. My daughter is 10 and has been using this same mouse for 5 years. Honestly, unless you don't use a big honking mouse, like my boomslang you'll be fine.

boomslang? Are you referring to something else other than your mouse there? ;)

I'm happy with my relatively small Logitech Dual Optical. No Fruedian issues for me. Nice for gaming too.

rather then a mouse, try a roller ball. We purchased one for our kids and it was specifically designed for them; very large (the ball was probably 4-5 inches in diameter), with equally large buttons. it was designed for desktop use or for the kids to actually pull it onto their laps and use it there. Helped alot, plus it took a huge amount of abuse and kept working. That would be my recommendation. Good luck.

I bought a Belkin Laptop mouse at Walmart for around $15 for a two year old.
She really likes it cause it fits her hand :)
