thanks,

The Speeze Falcon Rock has been a great solution for my XP1800. I've used them on PIII's and 2-XP1800's and the temps have been excellent. Both XP1800's run below 40C most of the time. I've seen 42C once but that was in a warm room. The fan isn't what I would consider loud either. It's hard for me to hear it over the PSU, but if you want less noise you can always undervolt them. I used a fanmate which cost about $4 and I couldn't even hear it. The HS is very well made.... just mount it and forget it.

That's a good heatsink. The fan is louder then 26dB in my opinion so I replaced it with a Panaflo L1A.

Yeah I've used the Speeze coolers myself, they're excellent. Nice & quiet, or add a 5.5v cable to make it silent :)

I am running the spreeze cooler on a 1600xp and it keeps it right around 40c at stock speeds. Its quite but it could be quiter ;).

Well, if cheap and quiet is what you want, you could try one of these. I am currently using one on a Duron 850 and it works very well. I would imagine one of the 1.6 gig durons would run even cooler given its' .13 micron width vs. the .18 of the spitfire core. The speeze coolers are also excellent (I use a couple of them on overclocked T-Bred "B"s) but they may be overkill on a Duron and are a little more expensive than the SVC GC68. I mean, really, $4.95 for a heatsink and fan? How can you beat that!

I've got a Duron 1600mhz with a GC69 and the fan spinning at ~2000RPMs via a Fanmate control inside a really cramped mATX case. Temps are not bad at all, idles at 40C.

duron 1600mhz is so easy to overclock, even with a crappy mobo you should be able to pull at least 200mhz+ out of it say 150FSB x 12
at 166FSB, you need at least 1.525 voltage for stability but it run quite hot like 49c idle, 52-53c full load with SVC GC68 HSF
But at 158, it seem to run much cooler with ony 100mhz difference.
Look at me signature for more info.

The Speeze Falcon Rock
That HS/F looks very similar to the SVC GC68/69 with a big clip for those that aren't too handy with a screwdriver. ;) That's what I use on everything from a Duron 750 that I have to a XP2000+. I just picked up a few when they were on sale for $1.99 each with fan. The stock fan is a little noisy, but not bad. For the slower chips, I replaced the fan with a NMB fan that's about 15db and 19 cfm. Those systems are pretty much silent. For you, I'd grab something like this Speeze hs or the GC68/69 and then run a quieter fan like the Panaflo L1a. I'd suggest the NMB, but it might be a little light for a 1.6 and besides, I think it's discontinued at this point unfortunately because they make fantastic case fans.

If you wanted to spend a few bucks more, any large hs with a slow speed fan would do the trick. Too bad SVC isn't running the deals on the Thermalright SLK900A. When they were $20, I should've picked up a few more. You could almost run that hs on your chip without a fan.

Check out the Spire Whisperock at www.kdcomputers.com They're the same as the Speeze Falconrock, near as I can tell, except for the quieter fan- about the same as a panaflo L1A...

And they work well on much higher end xp processors, so they'll do great on a Duron...
