I am running a Windows 8 system. I was looking for a recommendation on a external HD - 4TB or higher.

Thanks

The Seagate Expansion Backup 4 TB might be a good choice.

(I just bought one,and it's worked well so far.)

I have seven WD My Book USB 3.0 drives that I'm pretty happy with. Had to send one back, but WD replaced my 3TB with a 4TB pretty quickly. I just bought the last one a few weeks ago, and WD is finally providing a utility to turn off the dreaded "green" power-saving mode. Best of all, Staples carries them and they occasionally run a 20% off in-store promotion that makes them very affordable.

If you're buying in the US, Newegg regularly has both the Seagate Expansion 4TB, and Samsung's 4TB external (both USB 3.0) for aggressive prices. I'd check the daily deals on newegg for a week or so, and grab whichever one goes on sale first.

Hi capmeo. I agree with jkauff on this one. The WD My Book is a great external drive which has a lot to offer. It goes up to 6TB and runs great on Windows 8. The drive comes with the WD SmartWare Pro software which allows you to backup your data in either continuous backup to instantly create a copy of your file or scheduled backup. It also has the Acronis True Image WD Edition with which you can clone your whole drive, selected partitions, settings, applications etc. My Book is backward compatible and you can use it with both 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports. It also comes with support for Dropbox and has password protection and hardware encryption.
You can take a closer look at all of its features and software here: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=870

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers,
