Recommendation 4 Intel based board compatible with current hardware

My computer recently overheated and I suspect the culprit is the motherboard. The computer has power but when I try to turn it on the fans flicker and nothign seems to even start. I diagonosed it with another PSU and had the same issue.

My current configuration consisted of:
Asus p4p800
Intel P4 2.8 HT
Kingston Hyperx Memory DDR
BFG 4600 Geforce Video card.

I haven't been keeping up with the new technologies for quite a while now and there seems to be a plethora of motherboards. Could anyone guide me maybe into purchasing a new updated motherboard that would still be able to utilize the current hardware I have?

A fast answer would be exteremly appreciated.

Have you tried resetting the CMOS? Your system isn't exactly old, The only things I might do are upgrade the video card and up the memory to 1GB. If you do end up finding that the motherboard is the problem, my Abit IS7 has been rock solid so far.

I did find out tht it was the motherboard when I had the processor removed. IT was black and it seemed like a chip of some sort had blown up. I checked the processor for discoloration and it was clean. All the gold pins were still intact.

I didn't really like the p4p800 because it always had problems with the onboard sound crashing my video games. I had to go out and purchase a cheapo sound card just to be able hear sound in my games without it restarting the computer.

I will take a look at the abit is7.

Any more contributions or comments are greatly welcome.

I have a 2.8 P4 sockett 478 533fsb cpu, BFG 6800gt vid card, and 1 gig of corsair xms-3200 ram, and PCPower & Cooling 510 deluxe PS, on an Abit IT7 MB...same boat as you... looking for new MB... leaning toward Asus P4C800E or Abit IS-7g...

What do you guys think?
