recommend workout routine

My girfriend thinks shes put a few beer pounds on in the last year (maybe she has, but of course i wouldnt say anything). She doesnt really need to lose much, but regardless, going to the gym is a good thing, so please help me come up with a workout routine for her.

Basically, she wants to lose a few pounds around the midsection.

I'm thinking lots of cardio and abdominal stuff would be the best, combined with some light lifting to tone muscle. Maybe something like an all around routine she does 3 days a week consisting of something like:

20-30 min cardio
3 sets of situps
3 sets of side/side crunches
3 sets of obliques
3 sets of leg press
3 sets of leg curl
several minutes of core exercises
optional: light upper body weights (dumbell stuff)

And she wants to accomplish this without giving up alcohol (obviously)

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

do lifting before cardio...it burns more fat and you lift harder.

also most girls go to the gym and will go through the motions with tiny weights or bad form. teach her how to lift right with some effort or she will likely be one of these

Almost forgot: For the love of everything holy PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Light lifting is her first mistake and EVERY girls mistake imo. THEY are all 'scared' of getting huge. A girl isn't going to get huge without a lot of eating and a serious amount of training. Most lack the testerone to get big in the first place let alone eating enough. Most guys find it hard enough to put on weight and they all freak out about it.

How is her general fitness? Any pre exisiting injuries?

Squats 10reps x 3sets.
Pull ups: 10reps x 3sets (she'll use the 'assisting' machine) || Alternate these with Dips: 10reps x 3 sets (again on the assisting machine)
She can do the cardio here or after her work out.
Incline sit ups: 10reps x 3sets (start on the flat if she can't do the lowest incline) || Alternate these with Hyper extensions 10reps x 3sets

Cardio 30-40minutes 3x a week or so. Or 2x a week.

So basically she has 2 'work outs': A and B. A she does one set of exercises and B she does the other. She rotates these sessions one after each other.

If you want to ignore my advice then at least her her do her sit ups/ crunches at the END of her training. Get legs in first after the cardio.

Clean up the diet and she'll lose the mid section fat. If she builds some muscle that will help her cut the fat and raise her metabolic rate (rate in which your body uses up calories to sustain itself)

Less is more. Within 8-12 weeks she can swich in some new exercises.

Lifting light weights does f0ck all for her. Lift moderate and as she gets better get her to lift heavier weights in the 6-8rep ranges. She will benefit a lot from this.

I'm wondering... I know there's some amount of debate as to proper order of cardio/weights. What about lower body exercises and sprinting, though? It seems like sprinting is quite a taxing leg workout, is it recommended to do sprints and lower body exercises on the same day?

To those who actually don't get any you should know this is an awesome workout.

In fact, I think if one were wise enough they could incorperate that info into a pickup line. Something along the lines of "Hey baby, lookin to burn some calories 😉?"......

Sprinting is very taxing.

You can do them in the same work out squats. I wouldn't do 3 different leg exercises though. Most people do too many exercises in a session anyway on the same body part. But I'm of the school of not doing the same body parts too often...
