Anybody have some recommendations for a video card for the system I'm building for my wife? System board is an MSI K7T-Pro2A w/ either Duron 800 or Athlon 900 (still debating).

Requirements:
Fast (compared to two year old system)
Software used: MS Office, Creatacard, Video from CD-Rom, Web pages including streaming video. Possibly may look at some games, but certainly does not need high performance 3D graphics. Her games are more like solitaire or "Who wants to be a Millionaire". Might add DVD drive by next Christmas.
OS: Win98SE for now, but MUST have good W2k drivers available sometime this year.
Stability: Top importance. She'd rather have a system that never locks up as opposed to something super fast.
Cost: Under $100, preferably. Would consider used if avg used price in that range.

Thanks in advance! ;)

first off go with the athlon 800 and clock it to 9 the 800 is at best value around 120 or something. Then get yourself a visiontek geforce mx 32mb that is a kickass card for a kickass price OEM of course. That all I got to say about that ^gump

Yeah, a Geforce 2 MX card would probably be best if you are looking to pay under $100 for the vid card.

Where can I find one under $100 shipped? Anyone know of a place that's dependable? (or at least over 5.0 on resellerratings.com)

Thanks!

I would recommend a Matrox G400, she will thank you for the 2d display, Maxtrox cards are really a cut above in it's display.

if everyone says MX i say MX too, although i would look into a G400. they are not a worthy game competitor to the MX but i have heard the picture is very good, and ya a G400 is much older than a MX

I suggest a G400 or G450, You can find one cheaper than a GF2MX, and It gives SUPERIOR 2d quality to any other card out there. But its 3d is below par :(

I would Suggest a G400 or a G450, but incase your wife ever gets "3d", I would suggest a GF2MX

Just do a search on pricewatch for the lowest prices and the companies that have the lowest prices, check them out at reseller ratings to see their rating. I'm sure you'll find a place w/a low price and good rating.

Wow, you must really like you wife :D
I thought most people did what I do.
Upgrade my stuff, and give her the leftovers.
Wife now has a setup like your's could have used. FIC 503A, K6-III 448, 3dfx Voodoo 3, 64+32meg.

I would also opt for the G400/G450

save you a good amount of money, and the 3D is there if she ever needs it. It won't be up to par with an MX, but my guess is she really won't care between 640x480 and 800x600. 2D image quality is great, and DVD quality is also exceptional.
