Recommend version of 4-in-1's

Running Epox 8KHA+, fresh install of Windows 2000 SP3. Any other hardware you need?

I am in a new location, which is much hotter. I am receiving many BSOD's (STOP: 0x0000001E kmode_exception_not_handled).

As well as the best order to install SP's, drivers, app's, etc.

Thanks!

a) Most stable/recommended version of VIA 4-in-1's.

b) This PC has been 100% reliable until I moved (which the room is warmer and smaller than before) and re-installed Win2K just before school w/ SP3 and the August VIA 4-in-1's. Now I am recieving quite a few BSOD's with a CPU temp of 47-48C with the case fully enclosed and sys. temp. of 31C. I did not record temps. from last fall, so I don't have much to compare on, however, these do seem higher than I recall.

c) The recommended order to install drivers, app's, SP's, etc. with a fresh install.

I will try and post more details of the BSOD's on the next one.

Thanks.

Im running Win2k Pro SP3 on an ABIT KT7A and I use the VIA 4-in-1 version 4.29. When I installed the August release, my system seemed to be unstable [crashing, slow, BSODs]. I cant say with 100% certainty the newer release of VIA was the culprit, but when I went back to the 4.29 release on the CD that came with my board, many of my problems went away.

Last time I wiped this system [a week ago], I loaded [in this order]:

Win2000 Professional
VIA 4-in-1 4.29
SP3
Upgraded from IE5 to 5.5SP2
then the other requires service patches.

Spectre

Check for dust on the cpu fan and clear it, you can try it with the case open, this should help with cooling and help you find out if it`s a heat problem,I would install the VIA drivers right after install of the OS,also I would install the latest version 4.43 VIA 4 in 1 drivers,I too have an Epox 8KHA+ board and they work great for me(btw I`m using XP OS).

I do not recall seeing them in there, actually I did not see them in there. What version would they be anyway?

i'm really not sure, as i no longer have a via board, or use windows, but i do remember them being there. although if you have some 4-in-1's already installed, i dont think the MS approved ones will show up in windows update (since it sees you already have them installed).

anyways i had lots of stability issues with a via kt133a board and windows 2000, i finally did a last fresh install, then installed *only* drivers that are on windows update (and thus are MS tested). it helped out alot, although i think i remember it still being flaky once in a while, it was MUCH better than before. probably get a crash once a week or something, where before it would be multiple times a day.

You CPU temps(assuming they're somewhat accurate) definately shouldn't be a problem.
Anything under 50C is just fine, I believe AMD rates the Palomino XP's at up to 80C or something along those lines, but most aren't comfortable with anything above 60C.
