I've never seen any actual Japanese, Korean, or otherwise Asian horror movies. I've seen some remakes, and actually liked The Ring a LOT, but I've heard a lot of the remakes (The Grudge, etc) pale in comparison to the original. I love horror movies, but I feel "good" horror movies are so few and far between. As far as remakes of popular Asian horror movies go, I've seen The Ring, and Pulse, I believe, so preferably anything OTHER than the originals of those 2 movies, as I feel the plot would seem too familiar.

Thanks!

Edit: BTW, no Anime or animated films please

Edit: Movies watched so far:
Battle Royale - My opinion on post #37 (sucked more or less)

Tokyo Gore Police?

If I remember, Dumpling was supposed to be a good movie. Not quite horror, but morbid.

Thirst

I guarantee you won't regret it. It won't make you jump, but it will make you go "wtf?!" and "holy shit!" more than any other film.

Don't spoil it by reading reviews/imdb/rotten.

Oh, I forgot... there was this Japanese flick that took place in a hospital. Some kind of infection was spreading and the head doctor did not want to tell anyone about it because he wanted to study it. It had delightful things like the nurses practicing injections on comatose patients and later on themselves. Some kind of green ooze was pulsating around as well, cannot recall the name though.

I'm reading the imdb discussion about Audition and it sounds like a straight up shitty movie. Can anyone explain it more?
people circle jerking why audition sucked

Here's a good start. This guy on youtube has an entire playlist of Japanese horror movie reviews.

The "guy on youtube" you linked, Roger, says Audition is his favorite Japanese horror film of all time. Thanks for the link, quite informative.

Ringu and all the japanese original horror movies were horrible and not worth seeing. The Ring, The Grudge, The Eye, etc... the japanese versions are terrible. There was one I did like and I don't know if an American version was ever made, but I don't recall the name of it... I'll try to find it on Netflix.

EDIT: Shutter, that was it.

The description of this on wikipedia sounds interesting.

I watched Audition last night and it sucked. Overall it felt like there was no point to the story. A guy holds auditions for a wife, he picks one, she turns out to be an abused nutter. There's really nothing more to the story. From the first time he calls her house, the audience suspects she's some kind of serial killer because a person in a bag responds to the phone ringing. There's no build up at all because it's not a surprise. As anyone would have guessed 20 minutes into the movie, the main character becomes her next victim. Big shocker. Why the hell am I watching this? The only "twist," if you can call it that, is how the main character's son kills her. Overall I would say maybe 2/10.
