Recommend things for a lone female to do in NYC during the weekdays?

I am going to the East coast without my husband to visit some friends; he cannot come because he has to work. I will be in Boston from March 10-14, and NYC from March 14-19.

I will be staying with friends from college in Boston, The Bryant Park Hotel from March 14-17, and am currently looking for friends with space for me to stay at the evenings of the 17th and 18th.

That being said, most of my friends will be working during the day. I have never spent time in NYC alone, and am wondering what activities you would suggest or recommend for a female out on her own. If there are any nice museums, etc. that I could spend time at during the day, that would be fantastic.

I am not much of a shopper, although I enjoy walking and browsing on occasion. I believe it might be too cold to do "touristy" stuff (i.e. Statue of Liberty, etc.), but am open to suggestions.

I will need to fill up my weekdays from 9am-5 or 6pm, as my friends will be finished with work around 5-6pm.

The Met is awesome, lots of great stuff to see there.

Great suggestion, is it close to the Bryant Park Hotel or easily accessible by the subway system?

I'd love to hang out with you and do "girly" stuff🙂....too bad NYC is a long ways from me🙁

It's a shame you aren't closer, I would have loved to spend time with you doing "girly" stuff as well! I may end up placing an advertisement online to see if there are any nice females in NYC who might be interested in hanging out during the day.

Go to toys R us in times square, ride the ferris wheel 😀

If you want a museum, Museum of natural history is awesome. It's a days worth of stuff 😛

The 4, 5, and 6 trains stop at 86th street, which is just a few blocks from the Met. I'm not sure exactly where the Bryant Park Hotel is, but it is probably relatively close to the Times Square/Port Authority subway station. You can take the Port Authority E train uptown to Lexington Avenue and transfer to the 6 from there.

Statue of Liberty is way too cold to do.

You can always ride the staten island ferry back and fort for FREE.

if you are in the mood for some asian/korean food, let me know as I am one subway stop away.

Ha, that's funny. I'm doing the same loner vacation in NYC, the 14th through the 18th.

I picked up a Citypass off Ebay for about 40 bucks. It has tickets to Empire, Moma, Museum of natural history, the Intrepid, and the Guggenheim. I also have free tickets for Conan and a Daily Show taping, but I requested those a month ago.

The intrepid is awesome. Although you'll probably be freezing with the breeze around there when your on the aircraft carrier. But the tour of the submarine is great.

That sounds like fun, thank you for the recommendations! It appears there will be plenty to do by myself while my friends are at work.

Is the Staten Island Ferry ride enjoyable? I have never been one to turn down a recommendation for good food, and think one subway stop would be managable. Feel free to PM me, it appears I may not be eating lunch alone every day after all. 🙂
