Looking for a nice beach to just relax and enjoy the sun. The following are some potential spots I would want to visit with the Mrs, but I know there are plenty of others.

Hawks Cay
Amelia Island

I was thinking of visiting Maine but I think I'd rather be at the beach.

Ive spent alot of time in Nags Head and Rodanthe, great place....

Whats wrong with amelia island? Looks nice from what I've seen online.

As for the outer banks, what is there to do. I'd rather spend my time in one place that has a lot of things to do. I'll get lost if I had to drive around in unfamiliar territory.

Less than $2k to get and stay there, not including other expenses such as food/drinks.

Depends on what you want for a vacation, amount of time that you have, your sense of adventure, and how much money you want to spend.

$2K for a long weekend or 1-2 weeks?

Well, based on what I've seen so far from Amelia Island and Hawk's Cay, a four night stay will run me roughly $1300. Then I add airfare for another $400 for two ppl roundtrip and thats not including other expenses. I'm fine with this. Some of Amelia Island's resort are a half a mile from the ocean so I'll have to pay a ltitle more for something that's close by.

I'm not familiar with North America East, but I have heard that St. Petersburg/Clearwater is a great place to visit if you like the beach. And your pick, Amelia isl. also sound like a nice place for 4 romantic days. The Caribbean/Bahamas would be great too if you can afford an extra $400-800 on top of your bugget. IMHO, Oregon Coast is the best place in the US (only been along the West Coast & South US), if you don't mind the cool ocean & slightly cooler temperature than Florida.

What time of the year are you thinking of going?

Have a nice vacation.

Go to Acadia National Park in Maine - they have a beach or two and lots of other stuff to do. There is a little town there named Bar Harbor that has lots of nice local restaurants where you can get some great lobster.

Oops, almost for got La Jolla, CA. It is a nice place to visit and the beach is great, however it is an expensive place to stay, and lots of touristy thing to do.

There is a lot to do if you like outdoor activities.

Fishing (ocean/sound/charter/pier), kayak, parasail, windsurf, swimming, beaches, rental houses, museums, lighthouses, memorials, gardens, plays, etc.

It is never crowded, always peaceful, mostly low-key. However, with the exception of a few bars, there is no nightlife. In fact, bars can't even serve liquor on the Outer Banks -- you have to import your own from the mainland :).

I've been going to the Outer Banks for years and years. I love it.
