I just finished up with the second season of The Wire and it's pretty solid. If you haven't seen either, it's best to start with The Wire first. I had a difficult time adjusting to the pace because I had just finished up The Shield before starting on The Wire.

I don't know about the other shows, but the first 2 aren't even close to the same type of shows the OP listed. Did you even look at those?

Check out House OP. The first season gets a little monotonous near the end but it picks up from there. I've been watching Heroes lately which is alright but I think the acting is pretty sub-par with about half of the crew.
