Got a PS3 for Christmas and would like to pick the brains of some more experienced console gamers for their opinions on the better co-op games available for this system. The last console I owned was a Genesis, so I've been out of the loop for a while now.

I'm aware of Resident Evil and I'll be picking that up at some point as I liked the Wii version of The Umbrella Chronicles (I understand that The Umbrella Chronicles is a rail shooter and will be different from Resident Evil 5, but the co-op was great), but I don't know too much of what else is out there.

I'm not (obviously) a hard-core console gamer so I'm not terribly concerned about the perfect experience or the most immersive experience, etc. I'm just looking for recommendations of games that offer good co-op entertainment for people who are just looking for a game they can jump into and enjoy other than the obvious Guitar Hero or Rock Band options.

Also, I'm not invested in brand loyalty to any console; I really just wanted the PS3 for Gran Turismo, so let's not turn this into a discussion of whether I opted for the wrong console or not. :p

coop as in local? you...may have bought the wrong console. ;)

gears and halo are popular on 360, i can't really think of any ps3 exclusives. plenty of crossplatform shooters- CoD games, army of two, R6 vegas 2 (latter two should be bargain bin by now).

If you're looking for co-op games that your SO would enjoy, then you might look at the Lego games (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman).

Edit: I haven't played LittleBigPlanet, but it's supposed to be good

Little Big Planet, Resistance, Resistance2, Borderlands, Call of Duties, Lego games, Army of Two, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Kane&Lynch, Sacred2, Rainbow6: Vegas and Star Wars:Clone Wars Republic Heros to name some random ones.

Is there a particular genre of games you are interested in? The above are fairly broad based and cover a wide range of skills/interests.

I really enjoyed the release game Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom

It's a hacknslash button masher, but really fun with two players.

The PSN store has some great games. Superstardust & Pixel Junk Monsters are two that I would suggest. If you want something more...manly then Rainbow 6: Las Vegas 2....terrorist hunt. Some of the most enjoyable coop action you'll find.

Probably one of the few coop games I like to play - Saints Row 2

Of course, i have it for the 360, so I can't actually verify the ps3 version's performance.

A friend and I had quite a bit of fun sabotaging each others games (which it always ended up as, even though we'd start out by trying to help each other)
