Another good movie that will get you thinking is GATTACA.

Sorry for the bump, but I really liked this thread and starting a new one would be kind of pointless.

3000 Miles to Graceland. It has a bunch of Elvis impersonators holding up a casino with fully automatic weapons. David Arquette get's killed in it. Courtney Cox is at her absolute hottest. Ice T dies in it. Kevin Costner goes out in 50 caliber glory in it.

Awesome movie that got no attention at all.

No Escape. An older movie that is dark, brutal, and entertaining. Ray Liotta isn't known as being a bad ass, but he works in this one.

I didn't bother reading through every page but Akira is probably the best anime film ever, and I don't even like anime! lol

I'm pretty sure people have mentioned me but I'll 2nd them:
Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Elephant, & Easy Rider.

Naked Obsession. Never released on DVD though. William Katt of Greatest American Hero fame stars. Best topless bar movie ever made.

I'm looking for movies that are a bit dark and surprising. I'll give you an example- I thought Fight Club was excellent. I remember that they didn't even market what the movie was really about, it was a surprise.

Are there any more movies like that?

Reservoir Dogs

Pulp Fiction

American history X

Fight club

Those are my favourites but chances are you've seen them, unfortunantly crap like legend and children of men, 300 and other assorted crap is what is being produced now.

Anything Monty for a laugh though, being a tad smashed while watching makes it even funnier. ;)

It's up there, but it's not a movie you'll enjoy if you are not into the movie, it gets better the second time too since you pretty much won't get it until the end.

If you haven't seen it, you definently should.

I really liked 300 for an entertainment value of a movie, I agree Children of Men was lame and pure boring garbage.

So I watched 4 new releases this past week. My big surprise was that none of the movies actually had any kind of ending that resolved anything. The movies were No Country For Old Men, Star Gate - The Ark Of Truth, Things We Lost In The Fire, and Dan In Real Life. OK so maybe Dan In Real Life actually had some resolution at the end but WTF movies that don't really have endings. I guess it's a new Hollywood trend.

I agree with No country for old men with the part about the ending, another one I watched and felt the ending sucked also was There will be Blood.

try Snatch

Fear and Loathing , which was already mentioned

A newer one that is pretty weird is Crank, I thought it was a badass action movie that was totally off the wall...

I didn't see Leon The Professional in the thread. Make sure you get the Director's Cut, as it's 20-30 minutes longer.

A lot of people suggested weird sci-fis... 12 Monkeys fits that description.

Vote++ to Snatch and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang as the best "gritty comedy" flicks I've ever seen.
