I picked up a DS Lite for my son, but no games yet. He said he wants Mario Kart and a Spongebob game.

Mario Kart is a good choice.

If he can stand it, Brain Age would be an excellent choice. Also, New Super Mario bros. is simple and easy. Nintendogs could be fun.

If he is into Pokemon, the new DS Pokemon games come out next month. Zelda may also be a good choice when it comes out.

Can't think of any more of the top of my head.

I haven't played FFIII yet, but my understanding is that it's more of a "hardcore" FF game, or was that the other FF game on gba/ds?

I'd say go with brain age, meteos, new smb, mario kart.

It is more "hardcore" than the other recent final fantasies or some of the old ones I've played, maybe a bit to hard for a 6 yo., which is the reason I didn't include it.

Mr Driller, Nintendogs, Mario Kart, Tetris DS, Brain Age, Super Mario Bros, Cooking Mama, Kirby, Elite Beat Agents (fun game, but might be frustrating for a 6 yr old).

Eh? I've yet to see a DS game that reached $50 that wasn't some bundle or crazy special edition.

Lets see though, it cost $8 (here) for a movie ticket, $50-60 for a new game. A movie provides 1.5-3 hours of entertainment, while I've clocked in tens of hours in games. Not to mention many games are much more enjoyable to play than movies are to rewatch.

Don't like that form of entertainment? Pick one.

A good game should last a while, or be so grafitying that its briefness is excusable. Some games reach a $1 per hour of fun ratio for one play, and other even exceed that.

Heck, I had 324 hours clocked into FFX...
