Recommend some freshwater fish.

Sorry, he's in Kentucky. Piranhas are against the law here. 🙁

Are you serious? They actually ban piranhas in some states? I had piranhas ~5 years ago in high school and I always wanted a snakehead (google them, they're BADASS, so superior compared to virtually every other freshwater fish, evolution at work). Anyway, I looked into getting one recently and they were actually federally BANNED recently. An aquarium fish. That's absolute insanity. All because some idiots dumped a few in lakes/swamps around the country a couple of years ago and the hickass-fishermen lobby reacted because they want to catch their idiotic bass or whatever it is those people do. Did they institute heavy fines and have Fish and Wildlife employees monitor for dumping? No. That would be too smart. Instead they kill the patient instead of removing the bullet so they don't have to worry about it. Now I'm paying taxes so some worthless Fish and Wildlife employee can prevent private individuals from owning an aquarium fish. And now I've read they might being placing restrictions on bulldogs and pitbulls in some areas. Really, how many more private rights can be restricted in this country? I feel like I could move to Oceania circa 1984 and have more freedom sometimes.

From another point of view, there is no such thing as an "aquarium fish". Granted, some fish have been specially bread to look a certain way or live in aquariums, but snakeheads aren't among that group. They pose a serious threat to both game fish and native fisheries in the US. There aren't enough Fish and Wildlife employees to effectively stop snakehead dumping, especially when you consider that they can be flushed down a toilet and could live. They are an invasive species, and one of the best ways to control them is to prevent them from being sold in the US.

I really like Chichlids too, but I dont know if a 30 is gonna cut it. They will get to terriotorial. Maybe some Angelfish?

you could get a small school of neon tetras, or rummy nosed tetras.

Tiger barbs are cool as well, but understand that you will not be putting much else in the tank with them. Mine would bite me when I tried to adjust something in the tank

That's a great way to solve issues. There is clearly not enough law enforcement to prevent the usage of guns in crimes, so why not ban the sale of guns? What about baseball bats? What about rocks?

Luckily, it's not incredibly difficult to find someone breeding snakeheads in any larger city (banned federally, so essentially only interstate transportation is illegal, not the actual sale within many states, at least some state governments still value freedom). It's patently ridiculously that I cannot own a pet that is, by and large, not human life-threatening.

I think Seachem makes a cycling additive for getting your nitrate cycle started wthout fish. It's cruel to intentionally put a fish, even a "tough" fish like a Danio, in an uncycled tank.
Tim's Tropicals (http://timstropicals.com/index.asp) has some good info on different varieties and compatibility in a community tank.
Elmer's (http://www.elmersaquarium.com/nav/freshwater/index.html) has several suggested aquarium communities.
Tropical Fish Forums (http://www.fishforums.net), Fish forums (http://www.fishforums.com/forum/) and Fish Owners' Forum (http://forums.fishowners.com) are good places to ask questions.
And I think Kribensis are a Nigerian cichlid. They are by reputation the most peaceful of the African cichlids.
