I've never been a particularly picky eater but when I was a young kid there were a number of foods that I did shy away from. I have since grown to like most of them but not all. I use to hate brussel sprouts and any other bitter vegetable, all types of seafood, coffee, beer and wine when I first tasted them. I now don't mind most bitter tasting foods, love beer and wine, and will eat most seafood. The only thing left is shellfish, crab and lobster. Though I don't think I have much of a problem with lobster. Help recommend some dishes featuring shellfish and crab that will help me get used to these foods! The reason I don't like them is the strong fishy/ocean flavour I usually associate with them.

Any foods you won't touch?

Yeah I don't mind clam chowder all that much though it's still always the last choice I go for on a soup menu. Thanks for the crab cakes suggestion.

Shrimp, Prawns and Squid count as shellfish? Where's the shell? I've long ago learned to love these. Especially Calamari, mmmmmm yummm... Never tried Geoduck wouldn't know how to order it despite being 1/2 Chinese and easting Asian food all the time.

shrimp/prawns are related to lobsters and the shells are on the outside.

squid has the shell inside the mantle.

Really? All these years I've been putting mine in the blender and hated it. The shell gets all mixed in with the meat, and it's all bloby from not being cooked :(

Is this to order at a restaurant or make at home? If at home, try some king crab, it's usually already cooked and you just warm it up by steaming it. Grilling shrimp is also very easy. I love scallops, but they're a bit trickier to cook just right. Lobster is nice, but I really like crab and shrimp more generally.

you poor uneducated soul. Split them in half, skewer them, and grill them with garlic butter.
Yum.

You should buy a lobster, keep him alive for awhile and fatten him up. Get emotionally attached to it, and then cry when you eat it. I think I saw that on a TV show once.

I can't imagine someone not liking crab and/or lobster, so delicious.

For something like clams I like to get some fresh ones, clean them thoroughly (get the sand off) and make sure to throw out any dead ones. Heat up a pan with some butter and add a tonne of chopped garlic and a little s&p. Then throw the clams in the pan and toss them around for a bit.

After that pour in some white wine and stock (if you have it, if not, just wine is fine, but I feel the stock lowers the acidity a touch) and mix everything around. Put a lid on them for a few minutes.

Just before the clams are done (pretty much as soon as they are fully opened up), you add a little heavy cream, reduce it for a bit, add some freshly chopped parsely, then pour the clams into a bowl. Serve with some bread for sopping up the yummy juice, or even over pasta. Delicious!

Crab Risotto with white sauce
Polenta(make sure it's still got a pudding texture) with salt cod, clams and tomatoes
Uh....crab tortelloni

That's all I got off the top of my head. Try eating them mixed in with other dishes.

i love scallops.
oysters are okay with some buttah
crab cakes are good, but sometimes theres nothing like steaming freshly cleaned crab and having a go at getting the meat yourself, and softshells are scrumptious when fried

shrimp are good in a number of ways: saute, grill, steam, boil, fry

been a while since i had clams, never had mussels or squid. lobster is tasty

god, i wish my uncle still owned a seafood market :(
