I watched "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" on a whim (the original) and was taken aback by the gritty realism of the movie - that grit is something I've noticed in other 70s movies and I'm a huge fan of that.

Recommend any others?

Some I've seen:
1. Assault on Precinct 13
2. Chinatown
3. French Connection

edit: and, of course, the Godfather movies

YES! I forgot about that movie and meant to see it after I saw one amazing scene in film school.

Thanks!

The ones that I haven't seen are added to my netflix now - thanks!

I especially look forward to the warriors - should I treat it as campy (i.e. should I watch it tipsy with a group of friends) or is it more of a serious movie? I'm not sure based on trailers

Speaking of ticking, some might say Clockwork Orange, but have never seen it.

A classic, you should rent it!

That's the thing about a lot of 70s movies - aside from the mustaches, they're kinda timeless. There's nothing dated about Clockwork Orange

Definitely serious. Some of the gangs might look campy, but the movie itself it very gritty and dark. Think of it kind of like a western, cowboys fighting their way out of Indian country. It's just future NYC instead of old west.

And left em settin on the scales.
By the time we hit that chi-town,
Them bears was a-gettin smart:
Theyd brought up some reinforcements
From the illinoise national guard.
Theres armored cars, and tanks, and jeeps,
And rigs of evry size.
Yeah, them chicken coops was fulla bears
And choppers filled the skies.
Well, we shot the line and we went for broke
With a thousand screamin trucks
An eleven long-haired friends a jesus
In a chartreuse micra-bus.

And prepared to cross the line

But I didnt have a dog-goned dime.
