Recommend some 5.1 speakers

I'm looking for a good set of 5.1 speakers. I don't need anything ridiculous, just a solid system to be powered by an X-Fi ExtremeMusic. I could pay up to $250 if needed, but if $150 would do the trick, then that's all I want to spend.
Thanks for any suggestions, audio is not my forte.

For game noise and 128kbps MP3s, a set of Logitech X-530's will get the job done for $60 shipped from Newegg.com (free shipping ends today).

For real music listening, a $300 Klipsch set is barely adequate.

I hope you wait for a deal on the X-Fi you're planning or you get it off ebay. Shouldn't pay more than $80-ish for one.

You might be able to get Logitech z-5500s at $250.
z-5300s are somewhere between the x-530 suggestion and the z-5500s.

If Best Buy comes back with the $199 Promedia set deal, jump on that.

Already got the X-Fi, and yeah, I paid $80.

Anyone know how the Creative GigaWorks ProGamer G500 5.1 is? $190 on ZipZoomFly

The Z-5500s seem a little overkill. Cheapest is $275 on ZZF

With under-$200 5.1 systems you'll get thumpy bass, even on the $60 Logitech X-530.

What you won't get is good midrange, so music will sound a bit thin and smeared just like with a cheap boom box.

I had the Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks 510D, predecessors to the Gigaworks line. Awesome sounding speakers that had a solid low range and incredible mids and highs that were running from a Soundblaster Audigy Platinum. Sadly, after 4 years of use they just stopped working. As far as sound quality goes, I personally liked them better than the Klipsch speakers I was comparing them too, but this is a subjective area. I won't comment on their reliability, since my speakers just died last week and I'm not thrilled about it.

Hmm I picked up my z5500 back in January for 200 bucks from mwave. If it comes back down to that price I would highly recommend it!
