Recommend software for a small buisness

Doing some research for a class and I need some suggestions on software that a small business could use. This company is a personnel recruiting or headhunting company. They have a couple of offices in the United States and 2 abroad. I need to generate a list of categories of software that the firm would need and why. I have to include system software, and application software.

So far I have a few. Accounting (Peach Tree), Human Resource (Soft Q), Word Processing Suite (Microsoft Office), Operating System (Windows 2000), Groupware/Netware (Novell), and etc. I came up with these out of the blue and don't know If I should include anything else. I don't know why I would recommend this software and am asking for some help.

What would you recommend and why.

It depends on what kind of business they're running. I work at a newspaper company, and the Accounting department also has ICVerify, a credit card authorization/payment program. Office is a definite must-have, and I'd suspect Windows 2000 as well for the servers. Win98 will be okay on the desktops.
