http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBwaDCqR51o <~ Real Power Pro 750. First 10-11 seconds idle, no coil whine. The rest of the vid shows varying levels of stress in a game. Coil whine starts at around 12-13 seconds, its a little dark the roomie was watching a movie.

Overclocking makes it worse, more load equals more noise. I've had an Antec True Power 550watt PSU that made a similar noise under load, though not as loud and not so high pitched but definitely similar which has gotten me wondering if all PSU's whine/buzz under heavier loads? I don't go through many PSU's and the ones I've used for friends aren't typically high performance systems.

Are there any PSU's out there that don't whine or buzz when under heavy GPU/CPU load/overclocks? Not even my GTX 480 drowns out the noise of either PSU which is ridiculous, why are psu's so damn noisy? Or do I just have some bad PSU's?

Vid removed, so I can not hear what you are describing, but I will give you my own experience with PSU and you can take it for what you want.

About 10 years ago I had a Thermaltake 400 watt PSU that was excessively loud, but since then I have used either OCZ, Seasonic, or Corsair with my last 5 or 6 being Corsair. All have higher end components and I can not remember a whine or noise problem with any of these brands, even the intro level Corsair CX builder series. Certainly nothing I can hear over a couple of low speed Yate Loon 120s. I always considered myself having decent hearing, but I am in my 40s now, so perhaps I can not hear whatever frequency you are complaining of.

I recently ordered a Corsair Enthusiast 650 for my new build which is bronze certified. I will let you know next week if I can detect any sort of whine.

Thanks. Video fixed, definitely let me know how that 650 treats you. I'm looking for results around the 300 watt mark or higher if possible.

My PCP&C Silencer has been dead-silent for years, no coil whine at all. There are some great PSUs out there that are both quiet and built to last.

Isn't coil white just the luck of the draw? Some PSUs produce some nasty coil whine while others' are completely unnoticeable.

To some degree, but better-built (read: quality caps) will often not exhibit these issues. Also, if you are buying a premium PSU, I feel that you are 100% justified to ask for a replacement if coil-whine is an issue. This is especially true if you are buying a 'silent' PSU SKU.

The Antec, SeaSonic, Corsair and SilverStone PSUs that I have used of late I haven't gotten any type of coil whine from them even overclocking. Of course on my last system I have heard nothing over the fan noise from the Corsair H100 (I need to replace these fans with some better ones).

Got a Corsair 750 at home on a 2600K system that coil whines like crazy. Got another 15+ at work that don't.. Go figure the one that I care about being quiet isn't..

So its a shot in the dark? Are their any PSU's that are tested for this kind of thing before they leave the facility? Guess from now on I'll just RMA any unit that has coil whine, it's unacceptable.

Im running a corsair 850TX with my heavily overclocked system(both CPU and GPU) and i have zero coil whine. The only coil whine i have ever experienced was from a 4890.

Was it a low buzzing sound, I didn't hear a high pitched whine in the video.
