Recommend me the best power supply

Hello ladies and galls,

I'm Cristian from Spain.
I recently(2 months ago) bought a new computer, with the following details:

CPU : Intel Core2Duo E8200 running at 2.6 GHZ
MOBO : Asus P5KC
RAM : 2x1 kit Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400C4 (4-4-4-12)
GPU : ATI Radeon 3650 (Sapphire) 512 MB GDDR3
HDD : Western Digital 320 GB SATA2
: Western Digital 80 GB ATA100

and, this PC is fed by a
Xilence 700 watt power supply.

I do not do overclocking, and the only upgrade I consider would be 2 GB 1333 DDR3 memory.

Well the problem, with Spain (I'm not Spanish) is that is really hard to find good power supplies like PCP&C, Seasonic, etc.. so I had to settle for this.

Now, I will try my best to change this crappy power supply (just after 2 weeks it started making some weird noises after I shutdown the PC, and for the last 2 months I had to put with this noise, unless I turn the power from the ON/OFF button of the power supply) with something really good.

I use this computer mostly for developing stuff, Internet, some ocasional (1 hour a day) games like Oblivion (full details at 1440x900).

If you managed to read this far, well these are my questions:

- How many watts would a PC like this one need, for 100% load?
I want, and probably I will have to change the power supply, so I need a good list of power supply to choose from. What interest me is: build quality (it should be very good), silence (as mute as possible 😛), price (not exaggerated 😀 ).

I was thinking about PC Power&Cooling SILENCER® 610W EPS

Thank you guys!

Off topic: Here in Madrid the temperatures are quite high on summer (37 to 40 Celsius degrees), si with a software utility like HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php) I can see that my cores reach on 30% load temperatures like 52, 53º C (129º F), and 62º C (140º F) on 100% load. Is this normal for a Intel E8200?

The PCP&C is good, but the system is pretty modest, so how about Antec Earthwatts? (Do not consider any other Antec; only the Earthwatts is good)

I don*t think that the noise , that comes out of the power supply after I turn off the computer, is to cool down the PS. Because take this scenario: at 23 Pm I turn off the PC, and I wake up at 6 AM, and the noise is still there. And this is happening for the last month and 2 weeks I think everey day. Of course , when I have discovered this, I shutdown the power of the power supply with I/O button.

Wow daidaloss, you joined here almost 1½ years ago and are just getting around to your first post.

Your system won't draw that much power. If you don't have plans to go to a much better video card or do some crazy overclocking, your system will probably run nicely on a quality 300W+ PSU, or a bit more if you want the future overhead.

With that being said, here are some particular recommendations... whether you can get them in España is another matter. Any Seasonic S12-II series (330W and up). Any Corsair (450W and up). Any Antec EarthWatts/NeoPower/TruePower Trio (380W and up). Here in the USA the EarthWatts are the cheapest with their constant discounts/rebates, but at any given time any of these can be had starting around $50. They are all decent quality, reasonably quiet and the price (and wattage) is right. Coincidentally they're all made by Seasonic. Hmmm...

The PC Power & Cooling units are good, but more on the expensive side. Also, contrary to their naming scheme, the Silencer isn't that silent (though not as noisy as their TurboCool series).

Huh? What gives you that idea? The original EarthWatts, the NeoPower (AKA NeoHE) and the TruePower Trio are all Seasonic-made, so are probably pretty similar inside. The differences are that the EarthWatts is the basic model while the TruePower Trio has a 120mm fan, and the NeoPower is modular.

The TruePower Quattro are made by Enhance. Heck, even the Basiq series are decent for the price, being made by FSP. BTW, the EarthWatts EA430D, EA500D and EA650 are made by Delta, so they're not the same as the EarthWatts that everyone thinks they know.

Which is not necessarily to say that they're bad, just that we don't know enough about them yet.

Of course. Indeed Delta can make some good units. IIRC Antec uses them for their Signature series... if you can stomach paying $250 for a 650W PSU.

And just reposting in this thread after nearly 6 months

Yes that should be fine for your system...as long as that is the same videocard you are using

Dude? Are you a time traveler? Because I think your time machine needs a new PSU bro. The flux capacitors are all fluxed up. Next time have a look at the solid Japanese made ones.

I mean wow, lol im trriiipp'n out. 18 months for a first post, then 6 months between replies in a thread. Never seen this!
