Recommend me some music

to learn

i've been learning to play guitar and sing at the same time and need some new material

i've been playing for about 10 years, but i just started trying to sing recently

preferably something acoustic that's mostly chords, seeing as i'm new to this whole playing and singing thing

i've already learned "wish you were here" "take it easy" and "pigs on the wing 1 and 2"

what else should i learn?

Pick a book of Beatles' music.

Alot of their stuff was written on a guitar and pretty easy to sing. Unless your range gets up to the key of E, you might have to change keys to comfortably sing their songs.

Also, explore alternate tunings. My favorite is G (same as a banjo or mandolin) as you can make one finger chords all down the neck.

I can't sing, but Led Zep's "That's The Way" sounds great solo. I play this every year at our July 4th BBQ and it always gets a standing O 🙂

Trying to mix it up here, not sure what style you prefer.

Losing My Religion - REM

Redemption Song - Bob Marley

Basketcase - Green Day

Long Haired Country Boy - Charlie Daniels Band

I'd Love to Change the World - Ten years after (pretty easy picking in between the chorded portions but it sounds good)

If you want to work in some good picking songs:

Us & Them - Pink Floyd

Black Dog - Led Zepplin

Satriani actually did a couple from the blue dream (? second) CD on acoustic for the original version of MTV Unplugged with Jules Shear as the host. Odd but tasty.

Michael Penn's March and Free For All CDs have a bunch of Beatlesque tunes that could sound nice with just guitar and voice.

Richard Thompson has dozens of good ones over his 30 years of writing. "How Will I Ever Be Simple Again" is a sweet tune until the dark lyrics work into your brain.

Chris Whitley's Dirt Floor CD is all acoustic blues-rock.

😕 Heheh....I've never thought of that song as being easy to play, much less sing and play together. It's very hard to keep the beat because the tempo keeps changing (plus it doesn't sound good without a drummer).

Stairway To Heaven-Zepplin, More than a Feeling- Boston, Gordon Lightfoot's stuff is all acoustic and has alot of chords.
