Recommend me some laptop memory!

SO i just bought a Toshiba Satellite A135 for $500 at Best Buy. Pretty good laptop. Nice screen, dual-core, but only 512mb of RAM.

I want to go straight to 2GB via 2x1GB kit. In order to keep this a budget laptop, I want to spend $90 max.

I need PC2-4200 memory. I can get 2 indivdual 1Gb sticks and still run them in dual channel as long as they're identical can't I?

That's correct. You should probably check compatibility for that particular laptop before you buy memory. I don't know if it's still true, but laptops used to be pickier about memory brands than desktops.

Thanks for the input.

That Crucial memory has free shipping so it ends up being only $4 more. Not too bad. Especially for peace of mind! Not like I'm going to be overclocking or anything either.

The only bad part about it is the fact that it's 5-7 business day shipping instead of guaranteed 3 day. 🙁

Any other suggestions?

This laptop is unbearably slow in Vista Basic with only 512mb of RAM.
