Im at the library doing some research and decided while I am here to check out some books. Only real criteria is they have to be non-fiction. :)

I had a thread on here that was a huge political book list, but now it's not showing up in the search. It was an excellant list, and had books from all points of view.

The Debate on the Constitution : Federalist and Antifederalist Speeches, Articles, and Letters During the Struggle over Ratification : Part One, September 1787-February 1788

Very interesting read....but a little tough b/c of the linguistic nuances of the times.

The ones off the top of my head were fiction, like Ayn Rand, Heinlein, and Orwell. But there were a lot more current ones I can't remember right now. Well the one I'm reading right now is called No God, But God by Reza Aslan.

Robert McNamara's book on the Kennedy administration and Vietnam.

I can't remember the title at the moment.

John Raulston Saul The Collapse of globalism and the Reinvention of the world (not really worth it without some background in economics; this guy is a crazy socialist, but he's right about a few things and it's an interesting read).

Or just check out the biography section, there's always some interesting sh1t there!

I hate to threadjack but is this similiar to some of the 'lifers' that got their accounts deleted?

To stay on topic, you may want to check out some Howard Zinn. He has a great book called the People's History of the US 1492 to Present. I think that title is correct it's been a while. Oh and Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee is an excellant look at the history of settlement on this continent from the eyes of Native Americans.

Thanks for the suggestion guys, regretfully, the library here (in a city of 500k no less) seems to have a lack of fiction books...I could barely find any of the ones you listed. Luckily I got 200$ in Amazon gift cards for xmas :D

The Closing of the Western Mind : The Rise of Faith and the Fall of Reason by Charles Freeman - interesting perspective, may agree/disagree with argument but still worth reading

The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes - excellent

Dark Sun: The Making of the Hydrogen Bomb by Richard Rhodes - not quite as good but still good

The Little Black Book of Atomic War by Marc Barasch - an oldie but a goodie.

Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain - Discover that just about every stereotype of Europeans and Middle Easterners held by Americans was either well established by the time Mark Twain set sail or created by him.
