Recommend me an SSD

Hello all,

I'm looking for an SSD drive to install into my home system. I would like it to be a boot drive and run a few commonly used programs, like MS Office and Itunes (for the wife, bleh).

Can you recommend one that is low maintenance with decent storage? 60 Gig and up. I know there are different controllers out there and I don't know much about them. I essentially need a drive that does not need to be reformatted every six months and is an SSD. I'm not worried about which has a .00000002 ms faster read or write time, but if there's a significant difference in that area, please advise.

I know the Intel G2 gets all the good press, but it's pricey, and I've heard Kingston has the same controller in their drives. True/untrue?

Kingston has one drive that is a rebadged Intel x-25 with 40 gb of space instead of 80. That drive runs on the Intel controller, obviously, but its less than the 60 gb you're after. I don't know about their other drives.

Either Intel or Indilinx controllers are fine. OCZ uses the Indilinx controller and seems to be the most popular choice after the Intel drives. I have an 80 gb X-25 I'll be installing on a new machine next week, once all the parts get here.

Windows 7, yes - but I'd prefer not to shell out $300 for the 80 gig. I may go with the 40 previously mentioned, I think that may well be enough storage.

The OCZ Agility 60GB is around $200 or less I believe. A-Data has a 80GB repackaged Intel for $250. Check out Newegg.

I had looked at Amazon earlier and I did not notice that the OEM intel was $240 - I only saw the retail box for $300. Thanks 😉
