Just got done learning Black Crowes' "She Talks to Angels" song, which uses open E tuning. Since I only have one guitar I'd like to learn some other song that uses an open tuning so I don't have to take the time to retune just for this one song all the time.

Oh, and a song that has more individual note sections than chord sections would be preferred.

Haven't heard the song, but I find the tabs at powertabs.net to be extremely accurate, followed by guitartabs.cc

Hmmm...out of a dozen tabs I see two for that one where the tuning is DADDDD. That's a heck of a drop for the G string. Not a bad song though.

It is definitely a drop, but it was the only open tuned acoustic song I could think of that wasn't "She Talks to Angels". :D

Led Zeppelin - Bron-Yr-Aur. Open C tuning. I learned this w/the Guitar For the Practiciing Musician tablature back in .....1988...I think. I love this song. Not as easy to play as it sounds. You will need a really strong right hand!!!

Here's a tab

No pun intended I'm sure. That look right? I found some tabs in open F and open G too. One of the guys who typed out an open F tuning says he copied it out of a tab book called Led Zeppelin Complete - Volume I.

Hehe...now listening to the song. This sounds hella fun to play. :D

It's cool. I'm sure there are other ways to play it. The way I know...the "correct" way is w/the Open C Tuning.

Low E to High E

C Tune down to C
A Leave alone
C Tune down to C
G Leave alone
C Tune UP to C
E Leave alone

All strings open is a C Major chord. If you get the right hand fingering correct, you will HEAR that it's correct. It's not easy...at least not for a wanna-be like myself. I can/have done it, though.

Unless you're gonna modulate it, you might wanna specify which tuning.

I believe "seasons" (that kickass Chris Cornell song off the singles soundtrack) can be played in an open tuning (well, it's an alt tuning, but I'm not sure if it's open).

Some smashing pumpkins songs (muzzle comes to mind) might be in open tunings.

Kashmir is in DADGAD, but i guess that's no help.

I keep thinking there's a soundgarden song..."I lost my love again...would you die for me...". That one might be in an open tuning. Crap...what's that one called? It's a great song.

Anyway...that's all from memory, but there should be at least one in there that'll help you out.

SEE? SCHIZOID DOES POST NON-CRAP, SOMETIMES! (just don't tell anyone).

FISK!

Well, right now my guitar is tuned D A D F# A D for She Talks to Angels. I'd like to be able to just capo somewhere and play a different song, and not have to retune my guitar.

Led Zeppelin - White Summer

It uses an open tuning. It's DADGAD IIRC.

That's the thing with open tunings. There's so many songs that use them, but they're all different.

OH!

Pearl Jam - Daughter

That definitely uses an open tuning... Open E IIRC, maybe G.

I play almost solely in alternate tunings, but I never detune my guitar. If you want to play lots of open tunings, and don't like how awful open tungings are on your strings, try cutting capos.

Take a regular Kyser capo, put it in a vice, and hack saw off the end so it cannot press down the first string. Then, cut the bottom of the capo (the end the grips the underside of the neck) so it can only press down strings 3, 4, 5. BOOM! You now have two capos in one (one right side up, the other upside down) for some awesome alternate tunings. Use an additional regular capo to change the key.

There is also a capo made where you can individually dial-in what strings you want compressed. It's called a Third Hand Capo.

Have fun. :)
