Recommend me an 80mm fan

Hey guys,

I just got my XP-M installed and it's flying along at 220x11 (2420). But my poor little Vantec Stealth 80mm is starting to show it's age. What is the best 80mm fan I can couple with my Alpha PAL 8045 to keep my chip cool BUT without sounding like a tornado (obviously I don't want to use a delta screamer or vantec tornado). I'd like it to have a 3 pin Molex connector, too. What's new out there?

Thanks for the help!

A few more questions for you all:

1. Is it common to have to run at 1.7V to get 2.4GHz out of the mobile 2500+?
2. I know it's been hashed out time and time again, but does a CPU "burn in" after running warm for a few days?
3. Any good stress tests other than Prime95?

I tested my Corsair Value Select PC3200 today at 220MHz FSB and it passed Memtest86+ 1.25. I was really surprised by this. Unfortunately my system didn't pass Prime95 at that FSB. What can I do to fix this? Up Vdd to 1.7V? It is currently at 1.6V.

Panaflo fans seem to be pretty popular, you should give one a try.

That voltage is normal.

"burn in" was the worst idea ever, theres no such thing.

Prime95 is good eough, no need for anything else.

Use 3dMark03's cpu tests first before you run Prime95. It usually detects an instable cpu in seconds.

Panaflos are the best fans money can buy. I would go for a medium 80mm instead of a Low speed 80 as youll need a bit more airflow.

Thanks guys. I saw some nice panaflo's at SVC but they were all out of stock. There was a 39CFM model that is only 32dB loud. That seems like a nice compromise to me. And it is had an RPM sensor in it, too. I'll be trying to get that fan I think.

Thanks for the link. I have a similar fan here on my desk, it's got a pot on it. I just don't know what the min/max. flows and sound levels are on it.

I'm back down to 200x12 and the system is Doom 3 stable for about an hour now. Before that I was looping the 3DMark03 loop and it ran ok for 4 hours.

I'm gonna call this chip stable in my system. Now to cool it off a bit more. 🙂

Ok, well now after 3 days of running at 1.7V I can now Prime at 1.675V with no crashes. So, I'm not sure why I can run with lower voltage now, but I can sure understand how a person might think "burn-in" is real.
