Recommend me a video monitoring camera

Someone has been going around keying cars in the wee hours of the morning and the doughnut eating cops haven't been able to catch them.

Would like to put some type of security cam in the window to record motion activity for a week or so, don't want to pay for cloud based storage as we have dsl here, not super fast cable, need something that can record in darkness. The street is pitch black at night other than the lights form houses and cars passing by.

Is there something that can record to a hard drive locally.
