Recommend me a TV tuner please :)

I'm thinking about purchasing a tv tuner but I really don't know what is good.
It has to let me watch tv on a separate window and preferrably it will let me connect my PS2 to the computer so I can play it on my computer 🙂

Thank you guys 🙂

I'll refer you onto the experts...

A thread (click me)

If you read down the thread you'll see mention of the "FlyVideo 2000", this TV tuner card rivals the picture quality of professional capture cards valued at $400+

Use with this program "DScaler" (freeware) if you want to watch TV or play a videogame system on a PC monitor, you'll notice the difference, trust me.

Hope I was of service 😀

Alot of people around here use the Leadtek WinFast 2000XP TV Tuner, and it can be had from Newegg fairly cheap. While I don't have any experience with TV tuners on the PC, I think its worth considering...

How about the ASUS tv tuner (Uses newer decoder chip COAxent(SP?) or the newer Asus FM + Tv Tuner card (Uses newest Phillips Decoder).

I heard really good things about both specially the FM/TV tuner one. I wanted to get this one but my brother said that he saw somewhere that Asus recalled that card... No idea why.. Hope they bring it back soon.

Yeah, basically its down to the new Philips chipsets producing a cleaner, truer image compared to the older Conexant chipsets, so the Asus FM + Tv Tuner card might be a winner.

There's a guy on that thread thats tried about 10 TV cards and he gave the FlyVideo the thumbs up. (btw Yossarian, one of them was an ATI)

I won't even consider ATi because 3 of my friends told me ATi's crap! ao now Im down to: FlyVideo and Leadtek...

What if 3 of your friends said that AMD were crap, and another 3 said Intel are crap. What would you do then?

Actually take a look at reviews, and opinions of people other than your friends (no offence to your friends), and especially the opinions of someone who has actually seen the cards and/or owns it.

Confused

I got a fusion software HDTV card. Though I haven't been able to get HDTV with it, I can tune in all my cable and over the air channels. They say you cannot record analog tv with it, but I can get Virtual Dub to record the video of it... working on the audio part of it.

Well, if you could please refer me to a website with reviews for the tv tuner, I would really appreciate it.
I came here looking for help because I thought more people would give their opinions and some references to other website for me to check out.
I'm really new at computer building and rigging... my computer right now is the first computer that I built and I know most people here are much more experienced than I am, and that's why I'm asking different questions in different forums 🙂

Now, what would YOU recommend?

I personally have only used the Hauppauge WinTV Primio, which I've had for about 4 years, so I can't give any real advice.

My main point was your "My friends said ATI was crap so i don't wanna go with them".

The AVS Forums are supposed to be very good, and you will probably be able to find lots of threads there about TV Tuner cards, due to the HTPC crowd there 🙂

How does your tuner perform? Will it let me connect my PS2 to it? There are too many opinions and too many choices...
Now you're saying that you've used your tuner for 4 years so I know that it will last at least that long.
How's the picture quality?

Thanks 🙂

I think you're taking the wrong approach, there isn't much merit in a TV card lasting 4 years, as reliability isn't a concern with TV cards. 4 years is a long time, the hardware has since evolved, so consider only the newest generation of TV cards.

Again, the FlyVideo 2000/3000 (depending on whether stereo viewing is a concern) has been heralded by the hard-to-please members of the AVSForums, if you want affirmation I suggest you register an account with their forum and create the same thread you created here.

If there's any opinion you should trust, it's theirs.
