That should fit RAM on any dual socket board, or even UP boards with support for RDIMMs.
Next step down would be one of those native PCIe SSDs which are coming out now.
But 256G of RAM will "only" cost you about 500 dollar for a board and 16x 150 = $2400 for memory, plus between $500-$2000 for the CPUs.
Compared to the cost of getting a high speed SSD, that will consistently offer you those latencies, it's probably a good choice for peace of mind.
