Hi all,

Looking to trade out my 400fsb socket 478 motherboard for a 533fsb socket 478 motherboard that will
support the newer/quicker processors.

I really don't need onboard lan or sound or video since I have good agp and pci cards now.

Don't need RAID either.

Just a great basic motherboard with "4 wheels and roll up windows"

What are some good "bare bones" motherboards out there?

Any and all recommendations will be appreciated!

Thanks,
Jim

I just picked up a MSI 845PE Max since it was relatively cheap. Very solid board and does not have that infamous cold boot problem that affects the ABit BE7. It is just as fast as my other Asus P4PE-L board which was a lot more expensive. It does have onboard sound but can be disabled in Bios - not a big deal since it works well for me. I recommend this board without a doubt. You can also take a look at the Aopen PER board (PE Chipset) which got decent reviews and is a few $$ less.

If your concern is price, they all seem to be in the $150 range and I've seen the P4T533 dropping quite a bit and it does not have onboard LAN ethernet. Does have sound but not enabled unless you want to.

The Epox 4PEA is a good barebones 845PE board. Its also a good overclocker.
